The FPPC’s areas of expertise are:

  • a president on full-time leave to represent college professional employees;
  • four delegates – members of the Executive Council – who, in collaboration with and in support of the president, handle certain matters when the need arises;
  • one advisor specialized in labour relations to represent exclusively the interests of college professionals;
  • a knowledgeable team to carry out the FPPC strategic plan which is designed to promote the value of each of the employment groups its members are part of;
  • a range of documents which can help members of local executives better carry out their work (union toolbox, reference material given to newly hired professionals, annotated collective agreement, etc.);
  • During negotiations: hiring a second advisor specialized in negotiations to support the two members of the negotiation team elected by delegates of the Federal Council who are on full-time leave for the duration of the negotiations.

FPPC’s various specialized committees

Continuing Education Committee

This committee is focused on all issues which may have an impact or influence on the work of professionals working in Continuing Education sectors, namely continuing education, business services as well as prior learning and skills recognition.

One of its mandates is to demystify and promote the Continuing Education sector as well as the work done by the competent and thorough professional staff, such as the pedagogical support provided to hourly-paid teachers.

This committee also acts as support to the Continuing Education professional staff in the practical application of unique selection committees, with respect to the boundaries between the responsibilities of the professional personnel and those of other employees in this sector.

The Continuing Education Committee keeps a close eye on government policies regarding training-job adequacy. The professional personnel must maintain its involvement in this process; it is important that working conditions do not deteriorate so as to ensure more cost-efficient college Continuing Education services.

Committee on Students with Disabilities (EESH) or Special Needs (EEBP)

This committee deals with any issue involving, directly or indirectly, the boundaries between the responsibilities of the professional personnel and those of other college employees.

This committee also focuses on the problem of overwork affecting adapted services counsellors.

Mobilization Action and Emerging Activists Committee:

The mandate of the Mobilization action and Emerging activists committee is, among other things, to suggest ways and means to encourage the mobilization of FPPC-CSQ members, to foster relationships and to contribute to the CSQ mobilization network.

It also seeks to develop and propose a mobilization plan for the next provincial negotiations, to see to its implementation and help prepare the Federal Council which are held before the General Council – Negotiations..

The committee will also ensure the mobilization and participation of delegates during the General Council – Negotiation, etc.

With regard to emerging activists, the committee’s mandate is to develop a plan to foster a new generation of activists and propose standards and practices to foster emerging activists.
